Explore Ala Moana Shopping Center: Hawaii’s Top Retail Destination

Planning a trip to Hawaii? Don’t miss the Ala Moana Shopping Center—a must-visit destination in Honolulu that combines shopping, dining, and culture all in one stunning location. Maybe even a home away from home for some—you can really find it all at Ala Moana Center. This blog post will guide you through the best experiences that Ala Moana has to offer.

Why Visit Ala Moana Shopping Center?

Ala Moana Shopping Center is the largest open-air shopping center in the world, featuring over 350 stores. Whether you’re looking for high-end fashion or unique local products, this retail paradise has it all. I love a one-stop shop, don’t you?

Shopping Highlights

  • Luxury Brands: Find your favorite luxury boutiques like Chanel, Gucci, and Louis Vuitton. Depending on the brand, you may even find a Hawaii exclusive for something really special.
  • Local Treasures: Support local artisans by shopping for handmade jewelry, art, and traditional Hawaiian crafts. Including my favorite shop to pick up a slightly more upscale gift that also works very well as a local Hawaii souvenir. More on that later!
  • Department Stores: Don’t forget to check out Macy’s and Nordstrom for a wide variety of items or to grab something that you might have forgotten to pack or didn’t realize that you needed on an island getaway.

Dining Options to Savor

After a shopping spree, treat your taste buds to a delightful meal. Ala Moana offers a plethora of dining options:

  • Local Favorites: Enjoy fresh poke and traditional Hawaiian plate lunches at local eateries. This is definitely my pick! You can do a chain restaurant anytime, anywhere.
  • International Cuisine: Indulge in everything from Japanese ramen to American classics at the food court. Whether the Makai Market Food Court on the ground level facing the ocean, or The Lanai food court on the mall level next to Macy’s, this is a great option for a quick meal. You’d probably find me at SingMaTei picking up an order of lemongrass chicken with blue coconut rice if at the Makai Food Court or with some otoro nigiri from Ahi and Vegetable (if they have it) at The Lanai.

Experience the Beauty of the Center

Stroll through Ala Moana’s lush gardens and enjoy the tranquil water features that enhance the shopping experience. The open-air layout creates a refreshing atmosphere perfect for unwinding after a busy day. It’s also a great place to get your steps in with some captivating scenery with the window displays.

Cultural Events and Performances

Ala Moana Shopping Center isn’t just about shopping and dining; it’s also a cultural hub. Attend live performances featuring Hawaiian music and hula dancing throughout the year. Be sure to check their events calendar for seasonal festivities and special exhibitions.

Convenient Location Near Waikiki

Located just minutes from Waikiki, Ala Moana Shopping Center is easily accessible. Whether by car, bus, or a scenic beach walk, getting there is a breeze.
